Tottenham Hotspur have reached the semi-finals of the League Cup. The current number ten of the Premier League eliminated Manchester United, which was three places lower, 4-3.
It was a spectacular match in the Spurs stadium, with the home club seeming to have an easy evening. In the first half, Dominic Solanke and the Swede Dejan Kulusevski gave Tottenham a 2-0 lead, which was extended to 3-0 by Solanke nine minutes after the break.
But United fought back into the match in the second half. Dutch attacker Joshua Zirkzee, who came on after the break, made it 3-1 in the 63rd minute, after which another substitute, Amad Diallo, completely reduced the tension by making 3-2 seven minutes later.
Great chance Mazraoui
Noussair Mazraoui scored the equalizer in the 74th minute. The Moroccan defender cut to his left foot, but aimed just wide. Diallo shot over into a promising position moments later.
Three minutes before the end, Korean Son Heung-Min seemed to decide the match with a corner from the left. Protests by United goalkeeper Altay Bayaindir that he had been hindered by the Swede Lucas Bergvall had no effect.
In the fourth minute of the injury, Jonathan Evans reduced United to 4-3, but that was it.
The other three semi-finalists besides Tottenham are Arsenal (3-2 against Crystal Palace), Newcastle United (3-1 win over Brentford) and Premier League leader Liverpool of Dutch coach Arne Slot (1-2 win at Southampton).
