WWhen Robin van Persie comes, it is about Robin van Persie. The phenomenon is well known, Van Persie is the magnet that attracts football fans. If the cup draw then shows that SC Heerenveen has to travel to ASWH in Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht, then one and one quickly becomes two. Ambacht, located near Rotterdam, is Feyenoord’s hinterland. And so in addition to black and white ASWH supporters and blue and white Heerenveen fans, we also saw Feyenoorders at Sportpark Schildman.
Before the match, spectators gathered at the place where the players and coaches entered the field, and during the preview on ESPN the Van Persie adoration was audible. “Robin is a Feyenoord player,” the fans sang while the trainer stoically looked ahead. They received a smile and a thumbs up in return.
The hunt for eternal memories among supporters and ASWH players continued into the changing rooms afterwards. Shirts, walk-in shirts, other souvenirs, photos and autographs, everything was welcome. “I have the underpants of the doctor from Heerenveen,” an Ambachts staff member joked. ASWH did not retain any points in the cup confrontation.
