‘You can only have respect for that’ – Voetbal International

Peter Bosz was pleased with how PSV handled the cup match against Royal HFC (8-0 victory). The coach also had nice words about his opponent, who had created quite a few opportunities despite the big defeat.

HFC appeared dangerously in front of Joël Drommel a few times, but was unable to pass the keeper. On the other side the balls went in a little easier. “I think we have taken this match seriously,” Bosz said at the press conference. ‘These are not easy matches, because you can only do badly. You have to take it seriously and luckily we did that.’

“Of course not everything was good, but you score eight times and you keep a clean sheet,” Bosz continued. ‘Although the latter was still a bit difficult at times, because they still had quite a few chances. Where they could, they tried to put pressure on us: it wasn’t like they all dug into their own penalty area and just waited. You can only respect that.’

It was a carefree and excellent cup evening for PSV. ‘We were able to start Jerdy Schouten for the first time and Joey Veerman could now play 75 minutes. Those are the guys that are coming back. In addition, we have allowed boys who have not been able to make any or few minutes for a long time to participate again. And when you see Joël or Armando Obispo, you can only be satisfied with how they handled it,” says Bosz.

The coach was also asked about Johan Bakayoko, who was missing from the match selection. It is unclear whether he can be there again on Sunday against Feyenoord. Bosz: ‘He is still bothered by a kick he received against Shakhtar Donetsk, and he has now received a reaction to that again. I honestly don’t know what that looks like with a view to Sunday.’
