Twente, Utrecht and ten men Heerenveen beat amateurs in cup

FC Twente, FC Utrecht and sc Heerenveen have qualified for the third round of the KNVB cup tournament at the expense of amateur clubs. Twente was narrowly too strong for Katwijk with 2-3, FC Utrecht defeated AFC (0-8) and SC Heerenveen won 0-1 against ASWH with ten men.

The Heracles Almelo-NEC and Sparta Rotterdam-Go Ahead Eagles matches have not yet been decided and are in extra time. At 9 p.m. AZ and FC Groningen kicked off the last cup match of the evening.

In Katwijk, Twente took the lead within three minutes thanks to a goal by Alec Van Hoorenbeeck. The Belgian’s volley was tenable, but goalkeeper Stan van Bladeren could not get his hand on the ball properly.

Katwijk leveled fifteen minutes later. Goalkeeper Lars Unnerstall boxed a corner kick into the feet of Robin Schulte, who shot the ball into the corner in one go.

In the remainder of the first half, Katwijk missed several good opportunities for a surprising lead. Both teams therefore went to the changing rooms with an equal score, but after the break Twente walked away within a few minutes.

First it was Ricky van Wolfswinkel who tapped in a low cross from the right from close range, after which Bas Kuipers put the 1-3 into the net in an almost identical manner. Six minutes before the end, substitute Mohammed Tahiri scored the tying goal on behalf of Katwijk. A late equalizer failed to materialise.

In Amsterdam, FC Utrecht, number three in the Premier League, was far too strong for second division player AFC. At halftime, coach Ron Jans’ team took a 0-3 lead thanks to goals from Victor Jensen (twice) and Miguel Rodríguez.

After an hour of play, Rodríguez signed for the 0-4. In the last twenty minutes, Utrecht scored four more times: Adrian Blake made it 0-5, Paxten Aaronson scored the sixth goal and David Min scored two goals to make the final score 0-8.

Against ASWH, Heerenveen played most of the second half with one man less due to a red card from 19-year-old goalkeeper Bernt Klaverboer, who was allowed to make his debut in the first team by coach Robin van Persie.

In an attempt to defuse a long ball, the goalkeeper went far from his goal and torpedoed Quincy Tavares Mojica, who remained down for a long time and was carried off the field on a stretcher.

Heerenveen already had a 0-1 lead at that moment. Ion Nicolaescu scored the only goal of the match in the fortieth minute. The Moldovan striker worked a falling ball into the corner.
