The indoor swimming pool of Ilioupoli was renamed to ‘Plataniotis – Zerdeva’

Evangelia Plataniotis and Manos Zerdevas got their own sports “home”.

A special distinction for the Olympic champion and world champion in artistic swimming and the Olympic champion in water polo, since the Municipal Swimming Pool of Ilioupoli, following a relevant decision by Mayor Efstathios Psyrropoulos and municipal groups, was given their names.

The warm event of the naming was attended and greeted by:

• The General Secretary of Sports, Giorgos Mavrotas.
• The Deputy Governor, Kostas Zombos.
• The Secretary General of KOE, Dimitris Kyrkos.

Also present: Representing the Olympians club, Georgia Hellinaki and Evi Moraitidou, the President of the General Assembly of Ilioupoli, Apostolis Kostoulas, the Vice-President of Amateur Olympiacos, Michalis Hydraios, fellow athletes of Manos, from the National team and Olympiacos and the duet of Evangelias, Sofia Malkogeorgou.

In his greeting, the General Secretary of the KOE, Dimitris Kyrkos, emphasized:

“On behalf of the Hellenic Swimming Federation, its President Kyriakos Yiannopoulos and its Board of Directors, we congratulate the mayor and the municipal authority of Ilioupoli for their decision to appropriately name a swimming pool “jewel” after two athletes “jewels” of the liquid athletics and the symbolism of success through continuous effort and toil.

In order to reach this level, the athletes, in addition to their hard work, dedicate their most valuable asset, which is their time.

Exciting and unique to see athletes you have known since childhood, to see them climb step by step to the highest podiums.
