Heracles Almelo tonight eliminated last season’s losing cup finalist NEC after extra time. Sem Scheperman scored the only goal of the match three minutes before the end.
Heracles and NEC are two teams that have been having a hard time in recent weeks. NEC recently lost no less than 5-0 to a visit to Go Ahead Eagles and did not get further than a 1-1 draw against Sparta at home last weekend, while Heracles has also been without a win for five games.
Both teams showed this clearly during the match. NEC ultimately managed thirteen goal attempts, compared to seven by Heracles Almelo. However, both teams were powerless to hurt the other, so both teams had to extend the not very attractive match. The decision in the match ultimately had to wait until three minutes before the end. Sem Scheperman headed a perfect cross from De Keersmaecker against the ropes, ensuring that the Tukkers moved on to the next round.
FC Utrecht easily dealt with AFC on Wednesday evening. In Amsterdam, Ron Jans’ team took a 0-3 lead in the last fifteen minutes of the first half. After the break, FC Utrecht continued to a simple 0-8 victory. Victor Jensen scored the first two goals, Miguel Rodrigues the third and fourth.
Substitute Adrian Blake, who was also accurate against Go Ahead Eagles last weekend, then scored the fifth Utrecht goal, followed by goals from Paxten Aaronson and two from David Min in the final minutes.
So no new cup stunt for AFC, the team hardly featured in the game at its own sports park Goed Genoeg, while FC Utrecht did not even have to play very well for the difference in quality to be reflected on the scoreboard.
SC Heerenveen had to deal with the amateurs of ASWH with great difficulty. Last Saturday’s match winner in the match against PSV Ion Nicolaescu also scored the only goal for the Frisians tonight, who had to continue with ten men after just under an hour of play after a red card for goalkeeper Bernt Klaverboer (19).
The young goalkeeping talent was allowed to start in the starting line-up for the first time in SC Heerenveen’s goal on Wednesday evening and initially did not do without merit. Until after fifty-five minutes he decided to get out of his goal. The goalkeeper collided hard with Tavares of ASWH, who then also had to be replaced. Klaverboer had to step in and was replaced for the last half hour by Mickey van der Hart.

Despite the red card, Heerenveen nevertheless remained the dominant party, with ASWH leaving a rather powerless impression. The home team did not score in the last half hour, which meant that coach Robin van Persie’s team had some difficulty converting.
It will be announced on Saturday who the opponent will be next month. The third round matches will be played on January 14, 15 and 16.
