New York City FC has announced that it will have a brand new stadium in 2027. The MLS club will have its own home that can accommodate 25,000 fans. The stadium will run entirely on electricity.
The stadium will be called Etihad Park and will be a first. It is the first ever football stadium in New York City. In recent years, New York City has played its home games at Yankee Stadium, a baseball stadium. The Etihad Park is named after the club’s main sponsor. Etihad is also the main sponsor of Manchester City, also part of the City Football Group.
“This world-class stadium will offer great views and modern amenities and will be the headquarters of our club,” Ney York City said on its website. It is now possible for supporters to pre-order season tickets at Etihad Park.
What is also special is that Etihad immediately registered the stadium name for twenty years. The stadium will cost a total of 740 million euros. This is fully financed with our own money. It will be the first MLS stadium to run entirely on electricity. The Etihad Park will not be opened until 2027, making the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico too early.
