In the second round of qualifying for the 2026 Futsal Championship, the teams of Romania and Ukraine met. Both teams won crushing victories in the first round and did not concede a single goal. Ukraine defeated Cyprus (7:0), and Romania defeated Germany (6:0). Today’s fight was a head-on for first place.
Romania is currently ranked 25th in the FIFA rankings. Recent years can hardly be called successful for this team, because it failed to qualify for Euro 2022 and the 2024 World Cup. Today’s match was the thirteenth in the history of meetings between these teams. The Ukrainians have a confident advantage – 7 wins out of 12 games and one draw.
The Ukrainians began to dominate from the first minutes, but were able to realize their advantage in the middle of the first half. After a spectacular combination, Zvarych scored the ball – 0:1. Quite quickly, Kosenko’s team increased their advantage. The ball from Zvarych landed on the head of Shved, who fired into the empty goal – 0:2. There were no more goals before the break.
At the beginning of the second half, the Romanians became more active, but they could not create significant problems for Sukhov. The Ukrainians played confidently according to the score, but did not take any risks. We should pay tribute to the hosts, who did not give up and still tried to bring intrigue back to our match. The Romanians already ten minutes before the end of the match began to attack with the fifth field, and it was not easy for our team. In the 36th minute, Araujo could have scored, but his shot was parried by Sukhov.
As a result, the game ended in victory for Ukraine. We start qualifying with the highest result.
