Chelsea striker Mychajlo Moedryk has been provisionally suspended by the English Football Association (FA) following a positive doping test.
The club and the 23-year-old attacker are now awaiting the B sample. If this is also positive, a suspension of several years threatens for the 28-time Ukrainian international.
‘Complete shock’
Moedryk is surprised by the outcome of the test, he said on Instagram. “For me this outcome is a complete one shock. I know that I have done nothing wrong and remain hopeful that I can return to the field soon. Because of the investigation I can’t say much yet, but I will let you know if I can.”
Chelsea has briefly explained what will happen next on its own website. “Both the player and the club will now work with the relevant authorities to determine what caused the adverse finding.”
Moedryk was acquired by Chelsea from Shakhtar Donetsk in the winter of 2023. The English top club paid at least 70 million euros for the wing attacker, who has not yet broken through in the Premier League.
Moedryk has made 73 appearances for Chelsea so far. He scored ten goals and provided nine assists. As an international for Ukraine, he scored three times in 28 international matches.
