Conference League Week. Ukraine is not active, and competitors are guaranteed to receive points

The sixth round of the Conference League consists of 36 teams divided into 18 game matches. For a victory, each team will receive three points in the tournament table and two points in the Country Coefficient Table; a draw will give one point both there and there; defeat leaves the losers with nothing.

The eight teams finishing first in the standings will advance to the round of 16; sixteen teams finishing from 9th to 24th places will advance to the 1/16 finals; twelve teams finishing below 24th place will say goodbye to European competition.

All matches will take place on Thursday, December 19th at 22:00.

For Ukrainian teams, the 2024 calendar year is over (and for some, the European Cups are already over, despite the presence of two matches on the calendar), but our competitors continue to fight. Sweden and Cyprus are represented in the Conference League (Cypriots are exclusively in this tournament), and this tournament will still have a sixth round on December 19th. This, unlike the Europa League and Champions League, is the last slot of the league stage. Next up are the playoffs.

Both Cyprus and Sweden are already guaranteed to be in the playoffs (APOEL, Paphos, Djurgården). That is, they will still have the opportunity to increase their lead over Ukraine in the knockout matches. But this chance still exists this week – three Cypriot teams and one Swedish team will perform. Three of these four teams are already guaranteed to have bonuses in addition to the points received on the playing field.

As of now, APOEL has a minimum bonus of 0.625 points; Djurgården has 0.625 points; “Paphos” has 0.600 points. The third representative of Cyprus, Omonia, is in the playoffs and bonuses zone before the sixth round, but does not yet have a guarantee.

At the beginning of the next season (2025/26), Cyprus is already ahead of Ukraine by 3,625 points, Sweden by 4,806 points. And every point gained this week will increase this difference.

It looks very likely that next season our competitors will be Romania, Bulgaria, and Slovenia. Even Moldova is not very far behind. But these are things of the near future. In the meantime, we are watching how our positions regarding the Swedes and Cypriots will deteriorate. There is practically no chance that they will not get worse.
