Fortuna Sittard coach Danny Buijs was very happy with the point after the visit to Feyenoord. The Limburgers had the prospect of more for a long time, but the former Feyenoord player cherished the draw in De Kuip.
‘If you get a point at Feyenoord then you must be very happy. It also worked out,” Buijs admitted to ESPN. Shawn Adewoye scored after more than half an hour and Santiago Gimenez made it 1-1 for Feyenoord just before the end with a bicycle kick. ‘We certainly defended fantastically, but Feyenoord had a number of good opportunities to score. We had a great goalkeeper and once or twice the woodwork helped us.”
Buijs stated that Anis Hadj Moussa caused problems in Fortuna’s defense. ‘Yes, that boy is so creative. If you let it open, you have to make sure that you are two against one or you have to sit on it briefly beforehand. That’s why I turned it around after halftime. I am proud of what we have shown here.’
‘We have quite a few boys who are playing in De Kuip for the first time. Our director just asked: aren’t they happy? I said: they are very happy, but their tongue is on their shoes. They need to recover now. It was a tough match, but it was great that you walked away with a point. We play football to get results, not to win the beauty prize,” Buijs concludes.
