Bayern Munich resumes the Bundesliga on Friday with a home match against FC Augsburg. In the run-up to that match, Vincent Kompany spoke highly of Thomas Müller, who at the age of 35 still plays an important role in The record champion.
Müller can play his 484th Bundesliga match in a Bayern shirt against Augsburg. Only three players played more Bundesliga games for the same club. These are Karl-Heinz Körbel (Eintracht Frankfurt), Manfred Kaltz (Hamburger SV) and Michael Lameck (VfL Bochum). If it were up to Kompany, Müller would still add the necessary matches.
“I have often said how extremely important Thomas is for the entire team,” the Belgian coach said at the press conference. ‘Not only because of his role on the field, which is also important. I would like to emphasize that again. I believe that the development of players like Jamal Musiala has to do with the role of Thomas Müller.’
“You don’t just learn the goals he scores with just one ball contact in the sixteen-meter area,” Kompany continued. ‘You learn that by watching the players you train with and are with every day. Thomas’s role is incredibly important to us.”
The question remains whether Müller will start against Augsburg on Friday. The veteran participated in all competition matches this season, but only appeared at kick-off twice.
