The head coach of the Belgian national team, Domenico Tedesco, commented on the draw for the 2024/25 Nations League playoffs, following which his players will play with the Ukrainian team.
“Am I happy with the draw? I don’t know what it means to be happy with the draw. Each opponent is special in their own way. It’s very nice to meet Ukraine again, but Turkey and Greece would also be interesting.
Does it matter that we played with them at the Euro? I don’t know. We know their players, but that’s not that important. How can Belgium start playing well again? We know what we need to do. We roughly understand how we need to play against such an opponent. We are knowledgeable.
As for me, I plan to remain coach of Belgium. The results are not very good, which is why certain emotions and discussions arise; it would be bad if none of this had happened. That’s why I love this job.
I hope in March we will be able to play with the strongest squad, because in the last matches we had to make a lot of changes. We want to stay in League A, that’s our goal,” Tedesco said.
Tedesco’s fate at the helm of the Belgian national team will be decided at the end of November after a meeting of the local association’s board.
The blue-and-yellows met only once with the Belgians in the 3rd round of the Euro 2024 group stage. Then the game ended in a goalless draw 0:0.
