Pep Guardiola signed a new contract with Manchester City on Thursday. The Spanish success manager will remain associated with the defending Premier League champions until at least the summer of 2027.
Guardiola (53) had an expiring contract with Manchester City, which led to a lot of speculation in recent months about a possible departure of the ex-Barcelona and Bayern Munich coach. That flow of rumors has now come to an end: City have confirmed that the Spaniard will remain on board at the Etihad Stadium.
The English top club brought Guardiola to the Premier League in the summer of 2016 and has since become champion six times. In the 2022/23 season, City won the Champions League with Guardiola for the first time in club history and later also the Club World Cup.
Guardiola now has 490 official matches as manager of City. In recent weeks, the former Barcelona player experienced a negative first: for the first time in his career, he lost four matches in a row as a trainer.
City is currently five points behind leaders Liverpool in the Premier League. The cracker will be at Anfield on December 1 against Arne Slot’s team. Next Tuesday, City will play Feyenoord at home in the Champions League.
