Romania won the Nations League match with Kosovo 3-0. UEFA determined this after the Kosovo players walked off the field in injury time on Friday after chants from the stands.
In Bucharest, “Serbia, Serbia” was chanted and these are provocative texts for Kosovars. Kosovo seceded from Serbia in 2008, but its independence is not recognized everywhere. In Romania, for example, Kosovo is not seen as an autonomous country.
The Kosovo players complained to the referee about the chants on Friday and then went to the changing rooms. It was then 0-0.
Punishment for Romania
Thanks to the victory, Romania has become group winner and is therefore assured of promotion to the B division. The national team will have to play its next home match in an empty stadium, because the fans had misbehaved in several ways.
Despite this defeat, Kosovo finished second in the group and thus qualified for the promotion play-offs.
