Romania have been awarded a regulation 3-0 victory against Kosovo after their Nations League match in Bucharest was ended prematurely. UEFA has determined that.
The match between the leader of Group C, Romania, and the number two, Kosovo, was stopped in injury time on Friday at 0-0. Kosovo’s players left the field after hearing pro-Serb chants from the home fans, which Romania strongly denied.
Romanian national coach Mircea Lucescu (photo) strongly denied that Romania fans were shouting pro-Serbian slogans. ‘I didn’t expect a match like this, at this level, to end like this. From my point of view it is unacceptable. There was nothing said about Kosovo, there were no banners, there was absolutely nothing. It’s not normal, it’s premeditated. What they have done is a stain on their professionalism. It’s an undisciplined team. That meant that this match had to end like this with so many people coming to watch.’
UEFA ruled that Kosovo’s action was unacceptable and therefore Romania won the match 3-0. In addition, Kosovo must pay a fine of 6,000 euros for team misconduct. Romania has been fined 118,000 euros for “xenophobic slogans, disrespect for the national anthem, political messages, lasers and blocked stairs.”
The final score in Group C is that Romania has completed the group stage flawlessly. Kosovo finishes second with twelve points.
