Leader PSV beats AZ, the first goal conceded in the Premier League is an own goal

PSV won 4-1 against AZ at its own Herdgang and remains the leader in the Premier League. The Eindhoven team remains above Ajax on goal difference, which won against FC Utrecht on Saturday and has the same number of points after seven games.

PSV’s undefeated status was hardly in danger against AZ, but the series of matches without conceding goals came to an unfortunate end.

With a 1-0 lead (Chimera Ripa goal), PSV defender Melanie Bross scored her own team’s first goal this season. Bross played the ball back towards her own goal, while goalkeeper Nicky Evrard expected the ball wide of her goal and could no longer prevent the 1-1.

Just before half-time, Sisca Folkertsma headed in the deserved 2-1 for PSV on a pass from Renate Jansen, who played much better football and did not allow any chances at the back.

Jansen was decisive for PSV after the break. With another assist from a standard situation for Folkertsma’s 3-1 and making the 4-1, the Dutch international posted the result.

SC Heerenveen won 3-1 against Telstar earlier in the day, but the Frisians walked off the field irritated. Britt Udink scored a fourth goal for Heerenveen in the closing seconds, but as the ball rolled into the empty goal the final signal sounded.

The referee was unrelenting and so the score remained at 3-1.

“She already had the whistle in her mouth and had not seen that Britt could still score,” Heerenveen coach Niklas Tarvajärvi told ESPN afterwards. “She also indicated that it was the wrong choice. But hey, everyone makes mistakes.”
