The Netherlands has qualified for the qualifying round of the Billie Jean King Cup in April 2025. A victory by Suzan Lamens over Tamara Zidansek was good for the third point in the match against Slovenia.

Next year’s qualifying tournament will be played for tickets to the final tournament.

Lamens lost the first set 6-4, but still won the match by winning the next sets 6-3 and 6-2.

Rest lost

Earlier in the day, Arantxa Rus was unable to secure the victory. The world number 81 bowed 5-7, 2-6 to Veronika Erjavec.

Aranxa Rus

Rus had difficulty with Erjavec’s fierce play and immediately surrendered her serve. The Dutchwoman then kept putting pressure on the Slovenian in her service games and broke her back at 5-4.

But the 33-year-old Russian could not continue and then lost four games in a row. She continued to make too many mistakes, played with too little variety and only won two games.

Yesterday Lamens and Rus won their first singles match. The Dutch team was led by Kiki Bertens, who is usually an assistant. Team captain Elise Tamaëla was absent from Slovenia due to private circumstances.

Press Lamens

If Lamens had lost, it would have come down to a double match. That is why she felt pressure in her match against Zidansek. “I found it difficult at the beginning, in the first set I was a bit nervous and the balls didn’t come off the way I wanted. Ultimately, I grew into the match and was able to let go a little more and play for the win.”

“It was a tough game. Tamara is a tough player who doesn’t hit many balls wrong. Mentally it was also tough, because I wasn’t always satisfied with how I played. But I still kept fighting for every point, then you go deep .”
